Airport and Airline Security

The airport and airline infrastructure is too large and extensive too properly secure. It was not designed to handle terrorist type attacks, and the number of possible ways to breach security or directly attack the infrastructure leaves it extremely vunerable to future attacks.

The infrastructure needs to be more compact and sustainably designed to reduce threats. Currently, there are as many as 5000 commerial flights over the U.S. mainland at any one time. Most of them have inadeqaute security and must rely on chance or luck for secure flights. The fact of the matter is that there are simply too many flights taking place.

In addition to flights in the air, airports must be secure also. They require a minimum of these types to secure current designs:
1) Security to monitor and respond to parking lot areas.
2) Secuirty to monitor and respond to airport common areas which have both passengers and non passengers.
3) Security to monitor and check bags and passengers.
4) Security to monitor and respond to passenger only areas.
5) Security for special details.

The best method to secure airlines and airports is to design them properly in the first place. These things should be done:
1) Reduce the overall size of airports.
2) Reduce the number of flights in the air at any one time.
3) Limit the number and type of non flight people at airports.
4) Reduce the amount of on-site parking.
5) Increase the amount of rapid transit options to and from the airport for passengers and flight workers.
6) Increase the number of rapid land travel for shorter distance trips.

Don't ask, don't tell : Gays in the Military

The issue of sexual preference ought not have any bearing if someone can serve in the military. Frederick the Great was considered one of the best commanders in military history, and he was homosexual.Caesar was bisexual and he was ranked among the best military commanders. Napolean was  heterosexual and he too was considered one of the great military commanders. Therefore, sexual preference does not determine the fighting ability of a soldier. All that matters is if the person can perform the job effectively.

Know Thyself

" Know thyself and know thy enemy and you can fight a hundred battles and never be in peril. " Sun Tzu

Terrorism is not new. It is a strategy employed throughout history. It is a method of fighting an enemy who has a superior force in the field. The terrorist uses tactics that allow it to attack and demoralize a larger and more advanced military force.

No current conventional military force of developing nations can defeat the U.S. and other modern military forces, because the U.S. can stand miles away and strike targets without risk. The U.S. can send airplanes far into enemy territory undetected and strike with only minimal risk. The U.S. can strike inland targets from off the coast on their naval ships. The U.S. can deploy drones to kill the enemy. What recourse does the enemy have?

The enemy is out manned and out gunned, and must, therefore, attempt to draw the U.S. in close to fight or the enemy must strike at unprotected areas.

In short, terrorism is just a strategy.

Sun Tzu said, " It is best to attack the enemy's strategy. Second best is to break up his alliances. Next is to attack his troops. The worst is to attack his cities. "
